The Grand Master of a generation Lau Kar Leung passed away from illness last month. After his family completed his funeral last Wednesday (the 24th), his remains temporarily rested in the Tung Wah coffin home. Lau Kar Lung's coffin yesterday was transported to the Po Lin Monastery for cremation. His widow Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) watched the coffin went to the cremator and insisted on watching Master Lau turned into smoke. She collapsed from crying. At Master Lau's funeral, Yung Jing Jing "asked for donation" from Sir Run Run Shaw (Siu Yat Fu) when she asked Shaw to give Master Lau his share of the bonus to support the establishment of the Lau Kar Leung charity fund. Yesterday she revealed that they have made contact and Shaw needed to have meetings before making further decision. More details will come on Master Lau's "final seven" (August 10). Reporters called Shaw executive Wong Ka Hei to ask if they were meeting, he said that for now he had no comment.

Yesterday around 9AM, dressed in white mourning clothes Yung Jing Jing held Lau Kar Leung's spiritual tablet with both hands. Her daughters Man Yi and Hung Yi carried their father's photo and a large incense candle respectively and got in the hearse to reach the Po Lin Monastery's Hoi Wui Ling Tap Crematorium and Columbarium. Chief disciple Adam Cheng Siu Chau, disciple Sin Kwok Lam followed. They welcomed the coffin from the hearse outside the gates then entered the monastery for the ceremony. The coffin was sent into the cremator. The abbot consulted Yung Jing Jing to confirmed that the coffin was placed properly.

The workers cleared the venue to conduct the ceremony as the media waited outside. Around 12PM, Yung Jing Jing spoke to the press with Sin Kwok Lam and Cheng Siu Chau. She said, "Thank you everyone for sending Master on his final journey here. Today the weather is great, no rain. You can say it is perfect as Master Lau's cremation process is completed. Thank you Po Lin Monastery and the abbot for the most complete end for a Buddhist. Master Lau was honored and mourned, we will always remember him. Two disciples have opened up halls to instruct kung fu, Mark and Sin Kwok Lam will continue to spread Master Lau's Chinese kung fu and Hong Kong film. I will temporarily serve as the head for awhile, when the time is right they will take over."

As for the progress of the Shaw bonus, Yung Jing Jing said, "I have to maintain the Eight Precepts, so the less I talk the better it is. I have spoken with them once over the phone, they said that they had to have meetings to make a decision. Give them a little time! Maybe wait until Master's seven seven forty ninth day, August 10, for more details." Sin Kwok Lam added that the "head" Si Mo referred to meant head of the family. Disciples will always treat Si Mo like the head of the family.

Yung Jing Jing revealed that famous metaphysics expert Cai Bo Lai was Master Lau's good friend and calculated that the soonest would be the end of the year before the ashes could be placed in Po Fook Hill. "Master Lau's tombstone was being made. Hopefully it will merge kung fu and film elements. In addition the (Andy) Lau Tak Wa's 'Grand Master of A Generation' calligraphy will be hand carved. However Hong Kong lacked such resources in this area, it might have to been done in the Mainland. The photo will be shadow carved for a 3D effect."

After the interview, the monastery opened for media pictures. Master Lau's photo was next to the cremator. On the other side 12 plain lions lined up for cremation. In the pavilion Yung Jing Jing saw the smoke from the cremator and shed tears sentimentally. Sin Kwok Lam invited Yung Jing Jing to lead everyone to lunch. Yung Jing Jing, "I won't go, I don't want to eat, I want to stay here to keep him company!" She could not hold back her tears as she buried her head in her hands and cried. Later holding back her tears she bid reporters farewell, "I am fine, you can go!"

The Hung Kuen Grand Master of a generation Lau Kar Leung retired from the ring of life and the glory days in the martial arts and the film industry, for 20 years he battled cancer to the final moment. It was quite a victory. Although blood cancer took away Lau Kar Leung, his martial art ethics and kung fu film contributions will linger on; have a safe journey Master Lau!

Lau Kar Leung passed away from illness on June 25 at the age of 76. Lau Kar Leung's funeral services began yesterday at the Universal Funeral Parlor with a Buddhist ceremony and the funeral takes place today. Lau Kar Leung's life was honored and death grieved. Widow Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) as the master's wife at the martial art hall decorated venue posed for a group photo with Lau Kar Leung's disciples and their disciples to display the funeral services' solemn elegance. Yung Jing Jing spent several million to purchase niches in Po Fook Hill for Lau Kar Leung's ashes and the funeral hall decoration that resembled a luxurious martial art hall in movies. 3 filial lions and 9 plain lions from the 9 major martial art styles bidding Lau Kar Leung farewell was the grandest in half a century and the highest salute from the martial art world to Lau Kar Leung.

Lau Kar Leung's funeral takes place today at noon with a master monk hosted ceremony, then the closing of the coffin. The remains will be transported to the Tung Wah Coffin Home then on a lucky day to be cremated in Po Lin Monastery. Master Lau's coffin was environmentally friendly, which was a decision that he discussed with his wife Yung Jing Jing.

Yung Jing Jing and his family yesterday morning arrived at the services. The hall was decorated mainly in white and filled with fresh flowers. The photo was Master Lau's kung fu look from DRUNKEN MONKEY (JUI MA LAU). The Hall's banner said "Grand Master of A Generation", and the side elegiac couplets were Hung Kuen formulas. In the center were floral arrangements from Lau Kar Leung's widow and his 7 children. Yung Jing Jing's floral arrangement was white rose formed heart with a note that read "lover comrade Lau Kar Leung, from wife Lau Yung Jing Jing". Inside and outside the hall were large television screens that played the Lau Kar Leung special, which included film stills, life photos and interviews. The score of the special was Master Lau's three favorite songs ALWAYS IN MY HEART, THE MOON REPRESENTS MY HEART and UNCHAINED MELODY.

Yung Jing Jing wore a special design mourning dress, a wide body blacked Chinese dress with a white scarf with the word Lau. She looked extremely frail and her daughters Man Yi and Hung Yi were still very heart broken. Yesterday a public memorial was held as ordinary folks came to pay their respect to Master Lau. An abbot also began the scripture recital.

At 9AM the Lau family's 3 filial lions welcomed the nine plain lions that represented the major styles, including Hung Kuen, Bak Mei, White Crane, Damo Butterfly, Luoshan Boxing Fung Fo Tong and others. 12 lions in total arrived at the hall to salute Lau Kar Leung.

Yung Jing Jing around 4PM in the company of Nat Chan Pak Cheung and Lau Kar Leung's disciple Sin Kwok Lam spoke with the press. She said that the funeral arrangements have been very satisfactory. The hall was decorated like a martial art hall in the movies. She thanked everyone for their help. Yung Jing Jing said that Master Lau's children as well as his siblings and relatives were all. However, Lau Kar Leung's former wife was not.

Did Master have any final wish? Yung Jing Jing said that Master Lau wanted to more charity work. Thus the Lau Kar Leung charitable fund plan will be announced later. She personally wrote the eulogy in the funeral program. How did she feel? Yung Jing Jing said that she was very calm and hoped to maintain composure as much as possible. Since human is blood and flesh, she still had to remain composed despite her sorrow and pain. When Master Lau's memorial special was played in the venue she could not help but break down. Her daughters also cried until their tears ran dry before they stopped.

Yung Jing Jing said that in the days after Master Lau's passing, she and her daughters were very sadden. The reminders at home made them collapse emotionally. Luckily the nunnery took them in for 3 days, as the power of religion calmed their emotions; yet occasionally they would still get upset. Speaking of Andy Lau Tak Wa's "Grand Master Of a Generation" calligraphy for the program, she said that Ah Lek suggested asking Wa Jai for help. She knew that Master Lau had quite a connection with Wa Jai. Back then when he invited Wa Jai to make DRUNKEN MASTER 2, Wa Jai agreed without discussing money at all.

She revealed that the coffin used was environmentally friendly, the grave goods were simple pajamas and underwear. Only after the cremation would Master's favorite items be included in his grave goods.

Ah Lek was the funeral committee chair, which Yung Jing Jing had to explain clearly to prevent jealousy from others. She, Ah Lek and Master Lau had a little story. Once Master Lau lost his wallet, identifications and cash. Suddenly Ah Lek called Master Lau and asked if he lost his wallet. Actually in the wallet was Ah Lek's number, the person who found it contacted Ah Lek. At the time Master Lau said the wallet had 10,000 in cash, but actually it only had 4,000. When Ah Lek returned the wallet, 10,000 in cash was inside. Master knew that Ah Lek put the money in. She said that normally she talked with Master about life and death. He said that Ah Lek was trustworthy and he could help with the funeral. Master in the final days did not want to see people, but he and Ah Lek met several times.

Lau Kar Leung's funeral program was titld GRAND MASTER OF A GENERATION LAU KAR LEUNG, with calligraphy from Andy Lau Tak Wa. The cover photo was Master Lau's DRUNKEN MONKY film still, and the back cover was a cartoon image of Master Q with the words "Everyone Please" to bid family and friends farewell. Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) and her daughters Lau Man Yi and Lau Hung Yi personally wrote eulogies to bid farewell to their beloved husband and father.

Yung Jing Jing in her eulogy wrote that Lau Kar Leung at first was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma and only 5 years of life left. In the end he actively fought the cancer for 20 years, losing his life to blood cancer in the end. The battle was considered a victory. Yung Jing Jing's ageless romance with Lau Kar Leung rocked show business. She described Lau Kar Leung as the proof of their love without regret. "Without Lau Kar Leung, today's Yung Jing Jing absolutely would not be here. He is my inspiration, my conscience, my beloved, and the proof of love 'without regret, to the end' that I has been after my entire life." She praised Lau Kar Leung as a good father, accepted her spoiled nature and supported her wish fulfillment. Yung Jing Jing revealed that Lau Kar Leung loved to sing "You were always on my mind" to her, now only she is left to sing solo for her husband.

Lau Ka Leung's daughters Lau Man Yi and Lau Hung Yi wrote their eulogies in English. Elder daughter Man Yi said that without her father's love and encouragement, today's her would not exist; she also praised her father for still practicing kung fu at home despite being over 70. Man Yi finally summed up in Chinese, "Ah Pa, Anpanman, I will always love you."

Younger daughter Hung Yi admitted, "I have never seen a men as good as Ah Pa, I believe that I never will." Man Yi praised Lau Kar Leung as the best father in the world and lamented that his father died too soon. They only had 23 years together. She hoped to be his daughter in the next life as well.

Lau Kar Leung was a famous Hong Kong action director and kung fu film director. Father Lau Chum was a disciple of Wong Fei Hung's disciple Lam Sai Wing. Lau Kar Leung at age 7 studied martial arts with his father and was Wong Fei Hung's fourth generation disciple. He was well trained in Hung Kuen and knew Die-Da Chinese medicine. In 1949 his family moved to Hong Kong with his father. In 1950 through the introduction of his master's colleague Ng Jan Chi participated in his first film. In HOW THE YOUNG NORTHEAST HEROES SHATTERED THE LOTUS MITILIA (GUAN DONG SIU HUP DAI POR LIN FA JUN) as a child star double and stuntman, he and his father participated in the WONG FEI HUNG film series together and later gradually stepped onto the road to the Grand Master of a generation of the martial art world.

Lau Kar Leung was respected in life, so yesterday inside and outside the hall were floral arrangements. Known as the "Thief King", Yip Kai Foon also sent one that said, "Dear Mr. Lau Kar Leung, forever honored and respected, Yip Kai Foon". Over 100 year old Uncle Six, Sir Run Run Shaw (Siu Yat Fu), without any hesitation sent a floral arrangement along with his wife Mona Fong Yat Wa and wrote "Master Kar Leung, Forever Missed". Uncle Six had high regards for Lau Kar Leung and made him a director. His first film was already a big hit.

Among the arrangements Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Chen Kuan-Tai, Eddy Ko Hung and others' joint arrangement caught the most attention. Hung Kuen Grand Master of a generation Lau Kar Leung's funeral services will begin today at the Universal Funeral Parlor, with the funeral taking place the next day. Because the hall decoration was a big deal, it began a day early. Yesterday afternoon, the streets outside th funeral parlor were already filled with black and white "Lau" banners. Widow Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) yesterday afternoon personally supervised the decoration at the funeral parlor and did not leave until the evening.

Reportedly, the hall will be decorated into a martial art hall. Fabrics were used to cover the hall's ceramic tiles. Yesterday decorations took place behind closed doors inside the hall. To prevent leaks, workers snuck in and out of the doors. Lau Kar Leung's disciple Sin Kwok Lam was taking charge, pointing around and seemingly preparing for the filial lion dance positions. A truck brought a lot of fabrics. Yung Jing Jing posted photos of disciples' disciples decorating the hall. Pink silk fabrics were used to coordinate Master Lau's romantic side.

Lau Kar Leung's photo from DRUNKEN MONKEY was placed in the hall with white flowers around it. The hall was mainly decorated in white, with two giant television screens on the sides to play Master Lau's memorial special. Yung Jing Jing asked that condolence money to be donated to charity and established a Lau Kar Leung charitable fund. The accounting firm will send workers to register condolence money at the venue. The memorial program will have Andy Lau Tak Wa's "Grand Master of A Generation" calligraphy for its cover. Yung Jing Jing wrote about her relationship with Master Lau.

The funeral services will take place at the Universal Hall. Today between 3:30 and 4PM media and public memorial will take place. At 5PM a master monk will begin the prayer service until 6:30PM when memorial for family and friends will start. Tomorrow's funeral will be closed. Reportedly today and tomorrow filial lion dances will take place. Today disciples of Lau Kar Leung's colleagues will perform along with the nine major styles. Disciple Sin Kwok Lam said, "The nine major styles including Hung Kuen, White Crane, Damo Butterfly and Choy Lee Fut. This is a show of respect from friends in the martial art world. I will only be responsible for bringing disciples and their disciples to welcome and bid farewell according to martial art world traditions. I will lead the disciples with Hung Kuen salute to welcome the lions and the masters of the various styles." Tomorrow Sin Kwok Lam will dance the filial lion dance and led disciples to bid farewell with the three step kneel nine step kowtow ceremony and perform a lap around the Universal Funeral Parlor. Adam Cheng Siu Chau will wav the banner to send Lau Kar Leung's coffin to the hearse.

Back then when they worked on a film in Hengdian, everyday a huge group of fans waited for autographs and photos outside the hotel. Sometimes they numbered in hundreds; when Master Lau saw a certain "Big Brother" enjoying being surrounded by fan he was overjoyed. When that certain person was in the midst of joy, suddenly someone screamed "Wa Jai!" and hundreds of fans took a sharp right turn toward Wa Jai. The certain "Big Brother" felt very embarrassed from being "abandoned". Lau Tak Wa's charm was undeniable.

The Andy Lau Tak Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man starred film BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) earlier attended the Beijing premiere. Wa Jai said that audience response and knew that Sammi would likely win Best Actress. Wa Jai and Sammi have already played on screen couple seven times. Sammi joked that they might have known each other in a previous life so they had a natural chemistry. Wa Jai joked that they might have been a couple of three lifetimes. Since in real life he could not love her, they could only develop in movies. However when asked when they could not play a couple what could they play, Sammi joked that he could play a father but thought that Wa Jai was not old enough.

Funeral services for Veteran actress So Hung Suen and actress Lai Han Chi began yesterday in the Universal Funeral Parlor and Po Fook Hill in Shatin respectively. So Hung Suen passed away on the 12th due to diabetes related heart failure. Services began yesterday with the funeral taking place today. The ceremony is Buddhist and her remains will be transported to Diamond Hill Crematorium for cremation. Many friends in the business were heart broken over So Hung Suen's sudden passing. Gigi Wong Suk Yi broke down in tears as she remembered her late friend; Johnnie To Kei Fung rushed from Beijing to pay his respect. Junior colleagues Andy Lau Tak Wa, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau Ka Ling, Lau Ching Wan all sent floral arrangements.

So Hung Suen's husband Hui Sing Biu, son Hui Fung Lun and daughter Hui Ka Kei yesterday were present before the 3:30PM public event. Hui Sing Biu asked friends to donations in lieu of flowers to the construction of "So Hung Suen Memorial School" in Cambodia and donation boxes were set up at the venue. However many friends in the business still sent floral arrangements that filled the hall.

Hui Sing Biu and his son spoke to the media and appeared to be calm. Hui Sing Biu said that his wife was born in 1950, her age was 64. The funeral will have various Buddhist ceremonies. He revealed that Sister Suen was very peaceful when she passed, with a householder chanting for her to peacefully reach Sukhavati. Her ashes will be placed in Cham Shan Monastery in Clearwater Bay. He said that Sister Suen's wish was for her son to be able to manage her vegetarian store, to promote Buddhism and vegetarianism.

Yesterday friends who paid their respect included Gigi Wong Suk Yi, Nina Paw Hee Ching, Helena Law Lan, Pak Yan, Susanna Kwan Kuk Ying, Chan Ka Yi and others. Wong Suk Yi was rather heartbroken when she left as she tearfully said, "I never thought that she would pass so soon. When I learned about her diabetes I asked her to hurry up and see a doctor. I thought that after her toe removal operation she would get better, I never would have guessed......" She believed that Brother Biu would be able to overcome with his religious beliefs.

Paw Hee Ching sobbed and said that Sister Suen looked very peaceful. She has known Sister Suen for over 10 years. When they worked together they had a lot of fun and good memories. Last year she called Sister Suen to congratulate her on her Hong Kong Film Award. At the time they even promised to have dinner together. She lamented, "If you have something that you want to do just do it, not when it's too late. I regret very much that in the end I wasn't able to eat with her. I really miss her. She was a actress, liked to joke around and had a peaceful state of mind."

Sister Pak Yan said that Brother Biu was very strong. He and Sister Suen both were Buddhists. They often saw each other and discussed Buddhism. Earlier when she found out that Sister Suen was hospitalized she sent her regards. She lamented that birth, aging, illness and death were certain in life, but Sister Suen was still young and her passing was quite regrettable.

To Kei Fung yesterday attended the film BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM)'s Beijing press conference but left soon after. He at the press conference spoke first and apologized to the media, saying that because he had to rush back to Hong Kong to pay his respect to his friend of many years So Hung Suen he had to leave early. To Kei Fung and So Hung Suen have known each other for years. In 2011 So Hung Suen starred in his film LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE (DUET MING GUM) and won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. He praised her as an excellent actress, hoped that she would be a role model for young actors and wished her a safe journey.
