The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored Wong Kar Wai's film contribution with a special screening of THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) at 7:30PM on July 22nd. Aside from the chair and the board members, the film's lead actress Zhang Ziyi also made an appearance and surprised Wong Kar Wai.

Special screening host Matt Weiner has produced and directed many American television series. He was a Wong Kar Wai super fan and thus volunteered to host. THE GRANDMASTERS will open in the U.S. in August. The audience reaction was overwhelming at the special screening. Jet Tone will make a new cut for the American release and add new sound effects.

A Mainland site recently conducted a survey of the ten most rotten Chinese film of the first half of the year. They included Julian Cheung Chi Lam's BORN TO LOVE YOU, Michelle Chen's BADGES OF FURY and Ko Chen-Tung's TINY TIMES. Surprisingly THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) with over 200 million yuan RMB Mainland box office came in fifth. The Andy Lau Tak Wa and Lin Chiling starred SWITCH has been controversial since its release and received the most votes as the favorite. Many online claimed that the film made no sense, action fight scenes turned into absurdity. It absolutely was insulting viewers who bought tickets for it.

Lin Chiling with almost 2,000 votes won "Rotten Film Queen". "Rotten Film King" was Dior Cheng Yi Kin. Some online joked that Ekin like Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Donnie Yen Chi Tan had "facial paralysis" when he acted. He had no expression. Song Hye-Kyo and Wong Kar Wai also took photos together. She smiled brilliantly and leaned on Wong Kar Wai's shoulder. She even raised a victory sign, proving that the dispute was just a joke.

The first half of 2013 (January 1 to June 30) Hong Kong film market overall continued to rise as the total box office reached HK$764,968,372. In comparison to last year's HK$754,155,977 it was a 1.43% rise. Overall first run film quantity was 153, 19 were Hong Kong films and 134 were non Hong Kong films.

According to the Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd., the highest grossing Hong Kong film in the first half of the year was JOURNEY TO THE WEST: CONQUERING THE DEMONS (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) with HK$28,401,227 cumulative box office. In second place was THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) with HK$21,292,885 and in third was HOTEL DELUXE (BAK SING JAU DIM) with HK$19,443,275. In tenth place was YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) with HK$3,966,851.

The top three highest grossing non Hong Kong films were IRON MAN 3 with HK$106,389,801, in second was WORLD WAR Z with HK$30,655,926 for now and in third was A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD with HK$28,679,709.

Song Hye-Kyo yesterday attended her Korean series THAT WINTER, THE WIND BLOWS press conference at TVB television city. Speaking of dispute rumors with directing Wong Kar Wai during THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) production, she admitted that although initial the production felt difficult, they did not have any dispute. She even looked forward to continuing to work with Hong Kong filmmakers.

When Wong Kar Wai, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Zhang Ziyi last month attended the China Film Festival in Seoul, Song Hye-Kyo was present as well. To promote the 5th China Film Festival opening film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) in Korea, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Ziyi and Song Hye-Kyo earlier dressed up for their red carpet appearance. Director Wong Kar Wai later praised Song Hye-Kyo as "The prettiest female star in Asia, her face is perfect" and regretted that he was "unable to increase her role".

Two days ago, two hours before the China Film Festival opening ceremony, Korean paparazzi caught Song Hye-Kyo appearing in a Gangnam beauty salon in preparation for the event. Earlier when THE GRANDMASTERS was released overseas, Song Hye-Kyo was busy with the Korean series THAT WINTER, THE WIND BLOWS and was unable to promote. The Cannes award winning film LIKE FATHER LIKE SON's Japanese star Yoko Maki presented flowers to director Wong Kar Wai and Tony Leung Chiu Wai, then said that she wanted to learn kung fu from the latter. The Faye Wong and Li Yapeng founded Smile Angel Foundation yesterday held a fund raiser. It happened to be their daughter's 7th birthday but she did not appear. Faye Wong as usual did not speak to the media. Li Yang despite her deformity was still full of self confidence. Li Yapeng revealed that he and his wife gave a necklace to his daughter for her birthday.

The birthday girl did not appear but donated her drawing "Little Bird and Panda" to be auctioned, which went to "Mainland stock goddess" Liu Yang for HK$1 million. Li Yapeng said that the drawing was the only item without a starting bid price. Originally Bowie Tsang Bo Yi made a bid for 100,000 on behalf of her father Eric Tsang Chi Wai, but the second bid already reached 1 million and won.
